A 19-year-old motorcyclist is in critical condition after colliding with barriers on the A13 in Newham this morning.
The Met said the incident occurred at around 7am in Newham Way and that his family had been informed.
The London Ambulance Service confirmed they were called to the incident and took the man to a major trauma centre.
A spokesperson said: “We sent an ambulance crew, an incident response officer and our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) to the scene. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance by road.
“We treated a person at the scene and took them to a major trauma centre.”
The A13 Newham Way was closed both ways, but has since re-opened.
According to Transport for London, residual traffic tailbacks are now clearing but traffic is still slow-moving in the area.
The Met said enquiries are ongoing and asked any witnesses to call 101, citing reference number 1556/15jan.
