11 films and TV shows shot in Newham

Here's the Recorder's list of 11 movies and TV shows which have showcased a few of the borough's iconic locations.

Spider-Man: Far From Home

The disused Millennium Mills flour mill in Rayleigh Road, West Silvertown, provided the backdrop for a high-tech fight scene between Tom Holland's Spider-Man and Mysterio, played by Jake Gyllenhaal.

Namaste England

The council's Dockside HQ served as the setting for an airport - handy given London City is opposite Newham's offices - in this Bollywood romance starring Arjun Kapoor as Paramjeet and Parineeti Chopra as Jasmeet.

Flying Tiger 2

In November 2018, West Ham Cemetery in Forest Gate hosted this Hong Kong TV crime drama - the first series of which saw four billion hits online.

The location, which opened in 1857, furnished the backdrop as character Marcus visited his brother's grave.

Black Mirror

Part of Netflix's dystopian, sci-fi hit series created by Charlie Brooker was filmed in Canning Town. A section of series four's finale, Black Museum, was shot in Peto Street North where Daniel Lapaine's character Dr Dawson strolls down a derelict Manhattan road.

Lucky Man 3

Action sequences in this superhero Sky One series starring James Nesbitt as murder detective Harry Clayton were filmed in Queen's Market in Upton Park.

For its third series, the production shot in one of the capital's most diverse markets.

Final Score

This action thriller stars Pierce Brosnan as revolutionary Dimitri Belav and WWE wrestler-turned-actor Dave Bautista in the role of ex-soldier Michael Knox. For the film, West Ham United's former Boleyn Ground home is seized by an armed gang with Knox tasked with saving a 35,000 capacity crowd.

The finale sees a section of the stadium blown up.

Ill Manors

Released in June 2012, sections of this crime drama were filmed in Manor Park and Forest Gate.

Ben Drew - also known as musician Plan B - wrote, directed and devised the score of the film, which includes a scene where a naked man runs down Dimond Close near Wanstead Park Overground station.

The World is Not Enough

The Royal Docks features in the opening speedboat chase sequence of this James Bond classic, which was Pierce Brosnan's third outing in the role.

The Ipcress File

This 1965 British spy thriller starring Michael Caine and directed by Sidney J Furie includes a scene shot in Stephenson Street, Canning Town where Harry Palmer (Caine) meets the character Jock Carswell.

Empire of the Sun

Beckton Gasworks was the setting for a Japanese detention centre in this movie directed by Steven Spielberg and based on a story by J G Ballard about a boy's struggle to survive the occupation of China in the Second World War.

Full Metal Jacket

The same location features in this Vietnam War film directed by Stanley Kubrick. The gasworks - which closed in 1976 - were used as the setting of Huế - a Vietnamese city entered by a platoon trying to clear it of enemy snipers.
