This year’s race takes place on Saturday, august 6 and Sunday, August 7.

When will roads be closed for the London Triathlon 2016?

Different closures and diversions will take place at different times. The longest closures will start at 5am on Saturday, August 6, and end at 8pm on Sunday, August 7. Other roads will be closed at different periods between those two times.

• All roads within the ExCel exhibition centre will be closed or have restrictions between 5am on Saturday and 8pm on Sunday. There will be no through route, and access for parking only.

• Tidal Basin Road up to and including the Lower Lea Crossing will be closed between 5am on Saturday and 8pm on Sunday.

• Royal Albert Way dual carriageway will be closed in both directions between Gallions roundabout and Connaught Bridge between 5am on Saturday and 8pm on Sunday. There will be one lane open westbound to allow access to Newham council offices, the Regatta Centre and the Yi-Ban restaurant, but all traffic using this will be forced off of the dual carriageway and on to the Connaught Bridge roundabout at the rend of the road. Royal Albert Way will be reopened to traffic in one lane form the end of competition on Saturday (approximately 8pm) until 5am on Sunday.

• Victoria Embankment, Upper Thames Street, Lower Thames Street and Byward Street to Tower Hill will all be closed from 5am to 12 noon on Sunday, August 7.

• Southwark Bridge will be closed to through traffic and accessible ONLY from the south to provide access for local residents from 5am to 12 noon on Sunday, August 7.

• The East/West Cycle Super Highway on Victoria Embankment (between Westminster Bridge and Blackfriars Bridge) will remain open but will only be accessible on bike from Westminster Bridge and Blackfriars Bridge from 5am to 12 noon on Sunday, August 7. During this period, the East/West Cycle Super Highway on Upper Thames Street, Lower Thames Street and Byward Street to Tower Hill will be closed.

• From 5am on Sunday, August 7 to 6pm, The Highway, Limehouse Link Tunnel, Aspen Way, East India Dock tunnel and the Limehouse Link Tunnel will all closed in both directions. All traffic should consider using A13 but please allow extra time as traffic is likely to be heavier in both directions.

Through traffic travelling south to north / north to south

Between 5am and 12 noon on Sunday, Tower Bridge and Southwark Bridges will provide local access for residents but should not be used by through traffic.

Diversions. All other river crossings are unaffected, including the Rotherhithe Tunnel, Blackwall Tunnel and Blackfriars, London Bridge and Waterloo Bridge. Tower Bridge and Southwark Bridge will provide local access only to residents and visitors south of The Highway and Thames Street during those times. The Highway A1203 will be closed.

Through traffic travelling east to west / west to east

Between 5am and 6pm on Sunday, August 7, East India Dock Tunnel, Aspen Way, Limehouse Link Tunnel and The Highway are all closed in both directions.

The A13 will be the main diversion route but the A11, A12, A200 and A206 will all be open as alternatives. The Blackwall Tunnel, Cotton Street, Prestons Road and Westferry Road are unaffected and open as usual.

Access to St Katherine’s, Wapping and Shadwell

East Smithfield will be closed eastbound from 5am to 12 noon on Sunday, August 7. Westbound East Smithfield will be open for two-way traffic to access St Katherine’s, Wapping and Shadwell.

During this time, access vehicles can only get into these areas by travelling north over Tower Bridge. At Tower Hill traffic will be directed right along East Smithfield to Vaughan Way. Vehicles leaving these areas should travel via Vaughan Way and East Smithfield and follow directions south over Tower Bridge (see above). From here routes north of the river are possible via London Bridge or the Rotherhithe Tunnel.

Tower Bridge will be closed to through traffic and accessible ONLY from the south to provide local access to St Katherine’s, Wapping and Shadwell from 5am to 12 noon on Sunday, August 7.

From 12 noon on Sunday the roads to the west of Vaughan Way will reopen. Vehicles will need to follow the signed diversion from Tower Hill around the Minories to Dock Street, crossing straight over The Highway into Vaughan Way. Vehicles exiting from Vaughan Way can use either East Smithfield or Dock Street.

Access to Jardine Road and Free Trade Wharf

Between 5am and 6pm on Sunday, August 7, marshals will be controlling access along The Highway between Glamis Road and Jardine Road.

Vehicles that want to access Jardine Road much do so from Wapping and Shadwell (see above). If your journey involves travelling north you may want to park on the north side of The Highway or in Narrow Street area prior to the road closure to avoid the detour over Tower Bridge.

• Access from the Connaught Bridge to Beckton will be via Prince Regent Lane and Tollgate Road.

• Vehicles travelling to or from Britannia Village via central London should use the A13, via Silvertown Flyover. The North Woolwich Road A1020 via Silvertown Way remains open. Traffic can travel via North Woolwich Road, the Connaught Bridge, Victoria Dock Road and Prince Regent Lane to access the A13 which is open in both directions. Royal Albert Way will be closed.

• Access to Canning Town is possible from Silvertown Way as well as North Woolwich Road, the Connaught Bridge and Prince Regent Lane and the A13 is open in both directions.

• Custom House DLR access is possible via Prince Regent Lane and Victoria Dock Road.

• Access to Isle of Dogs and Canary Wharf is possible from the A13 via Cotton Street and Prestons Road or East India Dock Road and Westferry Road A1206. The Westferry Slip to Limehouse Link will be closed from 5am on Sunday to 6pm.

• A one-way access system for Jamestown Way will be in place from East India Dock Road. The diversion will take traffic down Leamouth Road, along Orchard Place, under the Lower Lea Crossing, back to Leamouth Road Roundabout to Newport Avenue. The exit diversion will go from Newport Avenue along Aspen Way to Preston’s Road Roundabout.

• Traffic for Orchard Place should use the A13 and Leamouth Road south to Leamouth roundabout where access will be maintained at all times. Exiting traffic will travel west along Aspen Way to Cotton Street where access north or south is available.

• Access to Poplar is possible via East India Dock Road A13. From the south vehicles can use Prestons Road straight onto Cotton Street or Westferry Road. Limehouse Link will be closed in both directions on Sunday between 5am and 6pm.

• For access from Southwark to north of the river - use Blackfriars, Waterloo or London Bridge. Tower Bridge is closed from on Sunday from 5am to 12 noon with local access only.

• City Airport can be reached at all times from the A13 via Canning Town, Prince Regent Lane and Connaught Bridge or the Royal Docks Road, via Gallions roundabout. Traffic using Aspen Way should turn left at Leamouth roundabout and use the A13 for any of the above options. Royal Albert Way dual carriageway is closed throughout the weekend.
