The “show must go on” for a magician who was back on stage just one week after impaling his hand on a six-inch nail when a live trick went horribly wrong.
Kyle Wallace, 55, was performing a Russian Roulette-style trick in Arch1, Canning Town, when the mishap befell him on November 5.
After putting a block of wood with a large nail sticking out of it into a bag he then mixed it up with two other bags of a similar size before asking the audience to choose one for him to slam his hand on.
Unluckily for Kyle, he hit the wrong bag and impaled his hand on the long nail.
“There was no drop of blood at all and I actually didn’t feel anything to begin with,” he said.
“So I decided I needed to dismantle the horror for the audience because the last thing I wanted to do was cause panic.
“So, I looked up at the audience and I told them to take a picture because it would make a good dinner party story.
“I posed for a picture or two before heading to the hospital.”
Once at Newham General Hospital it took 30 hours before the nail was removed.
“I was in absolute agony for the 30 hours, it was not great,” said Kyle. “I didn’t sleep for two days because I was so worried that I may role over – so I kept myself awake.”
He added: “I’m extremely lucky that it didn’t hit any tendons or bones, but if it had it would’ve been a much longer recovery process.”
Just a week after his unfortunate injury, Kyle was back at Arch1 performing to an audience again.
“The show must go on,” he said. “It was good to be back. I can move my hand a lot better now, it is still recovering but I am almost there.”
Kyle performs at Arch1, Cranberry Lane, every Thursday. See arch1.co.uk for more information.
