A new deputy young mayor has been voted in.
Royal Docks Community School student, Aisha Balhweesal is taking up the role following the election of Newham’s ninth Young Mayor, Alex Jarrett.
The Youth Council also voted in Newham’s first member for UK Youth Parliament, Saadia Sajid from Newham Sixth Form Collegiate Centre.
Alex Holmes from London Academy of Excellence will take up the mantle as Head of Youth Council’s Mental Health Board, Priscilla Hossain from Sarah Bonnell School will head up the Youth Council’s Events Board while Deborah Conteh from Kingsford Community School will become the Head of Learning and Leisure Board.
Alex Jarrett, Newham’s Young Mayor, said: “It is fantastic that we have voted in these talented people to support me in delivering my duties as Young Mayor. I look forward to working with them to deliver my manifesto promises and ensuring our young people have a voice in Newham and wider.”
The Young Mayor, Deputy Young Mayor, Heads of Boards and Youth Council will now meet regularly to look at how best to represent the views of young people across Newham.
