A murder investigation has been launched after two women were stabbed in Stratford, with one dying at the scene.
Met Police officers and London Ambulance Service (LAS) paramedics were called to Windmill Lane at about 3.35am on Sunday (October 23), where they found the two victims.
Despite their efforts, a woman in her 50s died at the scene.
Her family have been informed, Scotland Yard said, and are being supported by specialist officers.
Formal identification and a post-mortem exam will take place in due course.
The other woman – who is in her 30s - was taken to hospital, where her condition is not believed to be life threatening.
Officers are now searching for a man who they believe is known to both women as part of a murder investigation.
Ch Insp Lisa Parker of the Met’s North East Borough Command Unit (BCU) said: “I know that people in Newham and in particular those in the Stratford area will be shocked and concerned by this tragic incident.
“I share their concern, and can assure them that specialist detectives are working at pace to identify and arrest whoever was responsible.”
She said local officers will be patrolling the area, and urged anyone with information to contact the police.
People can call 101 with reference 1224/23Oct, or to remain anonymous, Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
