London Lions continued their historic EuroCup run at the Copper Box Arena with a convincing 97-80 win over Polish Basketball League champions, Śląsk Wrocław.
The latest victory comes after the London side became the first UK team since 2004 to win away from home in the prestigious European competition last week - beating Veolia Hamburg Towers 103-75.
Lions now sit in seventh place in Group B of the competition, boasting a record of three wins and three losses, with the top eight teams advancing to the knockout stages. Every one of their remaining 12 games now becomes crucial to secure qualification.
After the Lions built an early lead, Śląsk Wrocław fought back into contention to make for an entertaining tie, but ultimately the London-based side put on a clinic in the last quarter in a 13-point scoring run without reply to put the result beyond doubt.
The hosts were lead in terms of scoring by former NBA star Sam Dekker, who registered an impressive 18 points, and their campaign marks a historic moment not just for the London-based side, but also a potential turning point for the growth of British basketball as the Lions are the first UK team to be included in the EuroCup since 2007.
The team are buoyed by the recent signing of Miye Oni, who has joined until the rest of the season. The former Utah Jazz player brings important experience to the team and becomes the third former NBA player to join the Lions, alongside Dekker and Kosta Koufos.
The London team has assembled a star-studded roster with a hybrid of homegrown tier-one talent, in addition to ex-NBA and further international signings, with the diverse squad boasting an abundance of experience playing in major basketball leagues around the world.
"Everything is really positive, we're happy and going in the right direction," said Lions head coach Ryan Schmidt.
"After the FIBA window we came back with a renewed focus and cleaned some stuff up on the offensive end. These guys are doing a really good job of playing together: in the last two games in this competition our assist numbers have been over 20.
"Defensively, we always knew that would be our identity and how we were going to be able to win games. That's been consistent and been great to see, we're excited and playing well.
"But we know in this competition every single night is going to be a battle. You have to take the wins when you get them and now we have to move on and prepare for our next game."
