Newham Council has apologised after a disabled man was wrongly issued with eight driving fines since October.

John Monk said he was served with the penalty charge notices (PCNs) for driving down High Street North, which runs between Manor Park and East Ham, despite his Blue Badge permitting him to do so.

The council said it has now cancelled all the fines, which were wrongly given due to a "technical issue".

John said: "I don't go down there all the time. I'm registered as disabled.

"I [went] down there to get my meat for Christmas dinner and then I got another three (PCNs).

"All I'm doing is keeping on filling out forms saying I'm a disabled driver, putting in my Blue Badge number, ticket number, and they're still issuing tickets.

"It's disgraceful... they shouldn't have them quashed - they shouldn't be issuing them in the first place."

A Newham Council spokesperson said: "Unfortunately due to a technical issue Mr Monk’s vehicle registration number was not picked up by the camera alert system.

"Our CCTV enforcement software provider is investigating the issue.

"We apologise to Mr Monk for this inconvenience and will be contacting him directly.

"All PCNs have now been cancelled."
