A serving Met Police officer has been charged in connection with an alleged assault while he was off duty.
PC Bilal Naveed, of the North East Basic Command Unit (BCU) which covers Newham and Waltham Forest, was arrested on Friday (April 21) in connection with the alleged incident on Saturday, April 1.

He has been charged with assault and perverting the course of justice and was remanded in custody to appear at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court today (April 24).

The Directorate of Professional Standards and the Independent Office for Police Conduct have been made aware, a Met Police spokesperson said.
PC Naveed is currently suspended, they added.
