A home in East Ham has suffered roof damage after a fire started.
London Fire Bfigade (LFB) received a call at 3.47pm yesterday (October 4) with reports of a home fire in Courtland Road.
The fire has been confirmed as accidental by LFB.
Around 25 firefighters from stations across east London attended to stop the fire spreading, with a spokesperson for the LFB confirming the blaze had been put out by 4.54pm.
A woman is reported to have left the property before the fire service was on site and no injuries have been reported.
The cause of the fire was "hot works" that were taking place at the home, an LFB spokesperson said.
Hot works tend to involve an open flame, or are activities that can produce heat and sparks capable of starting a fire.
The spokesperson confirmed there were "no working smoke alarms in the property".
The statement added: "This incident shows the importance of having smoke alarms in your home.
“They give the earliest possible warning of fire and you should have working smoke alarms in every room where a fire can start, plus a heat alarm in the kitchen. They should be tested regularly.”
The LFB have referred homeowners to use their Home Fire Safety Checker tool to identify potential hidden fire risks in their homes.
