TfL housing firm seeks partner for Canning Town development

Places for London wants to transform the former Elizabeth Line work site at Limmo Peninsula, Canning Town, into as many as 1,500 homes.

It comes as part of a wider plan to deliver 20,000 new homes and to generate investment into London's transport network. 

The plot spans five hectares of land and the plans include affordable housing and potentially commercial space to support the local economy.

Nestled in the Royal Docks and Beckton Riverside Opportunity Area, the Limmo Peninsula has a 600m stretch of river frontage. 

The development could include the addition of accessible open space and connectivity via a new cycle path, pedestrian bridge and river walkway.

Ben Tate, head of property development at Places for London, said: “We are excited to be searching for a joint venture partner to help us deliver a residential-led scheme at Limmo Peninsula in the heart of east London.

"This is a unique opportunity for a partner to help us transform this site into a sustainable development that will benefit the local community.

“This partnership will form part of our wider programme, which seeks to build the homes and commercial spaces the city needs, while also generating vital revenue that can then be reinvested into the transport network.”

The north side of the plot is less than a five minute walk from Canning Town station.

The latest public call for a partner comes around six years since London mayor Sadiq Khan first revealed plans to transform the Limmo Peninsula into a new neighbourhood.

The mayor said back in February 2018 that TfL was seeking a partner for a scheme of up to 1,500 homes, adding: “The Limmo Peninsula has the capacity to be transformed into a booming new east London neighbourhood."
