Forest Gate Police Station blaze: Firefighters back at scene

The roof of the building in Romford Road was completely destroyed in the fire, which 175 firefighters spent hours tackling on March 6. 

The fire is not being treated as suspicious but an investigation is underway. 

The London Fire Brigade has today (March 8) addressed smoke seen rising from the building in a post to their followers on X, formerly Twitter.

They wrote: "This morning during a reinspection of #ForestGate Police Station, a small amount of smoke was spotted issuing from the roof.

"As a result crews have redeployed to the scene as a precaution, working alongside colleagues from @metpoliceuk."

A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade told The Recorder: "Crews used water to dampen down areas of the roof as a precaution."

It is expected that emergency services will remain present into the weekend, with Romford Road remaining affected as teams continue their "operations into this evening (March 8)". 

Forest Gate-based police officers have been moved to alternative stations following the fire, with equipment and uniforms among the items lost.

Romford Road was closed, affecting surrounding side roads, yesterday. (Image: Olivia Carter)It is unclear how long the station will be out of service for, but Supt Dan Card assured residents yesterday (March 7) that their "ability to deliver a policing service for Newham remains unaffected".

He said: "Our local teams will continue to serve the community in the usual way and there will be no reduction in the service we deliver."
