Part of a major road remains closed more than a week after a huge fire at Forest Gate Police Station, with cordons to remain "for some time".

The blaze on March 6 saw an estimated 175 firefighters attend and spend hours fighting the flames. 

Around 60 people were evacuated from the building, with the fire destroying its roof.

Nine days on from the incident, part of Romford Road and a surrounding residential road remain closed whilst investigations into the fire continue.

"We are working with our fire brigade colleagues to minimise disruption to the public, however safety is our first priority."

Forest Gate officers have been temporarily relocated to other centres across Newham whilst the building remains out of bounds.

Green Street, which runs down the side of the station, is also closed up to Henderson Road and Westbury Terrace. 

Emergency services have been unable to confirm a date of when the roads will be fully reopened.
