Students of a pupil referral unit (PRU) in Plaistow have told Ofsted inspectors how they believe their teachers have "superpowers".
Tunmarsh School in Tunmarsh Lane was visited by the education inspectors in March and, in their report published on May 8, it was rated 'good' overall.
It received 'good' ratings in three of four key areas, and 'outstanding' in personal development.
Over the two-day inspection, inspectors spoke to students who said that staff "have superpowers" as they know when pupils are in need of support or help, even before any issues arise.
Inspectors described the environment as "nurturing", with personalised sessions and activities provided for students to support their personal, social and emotional development.
Many pupils who spend time at Tunmarsh are said to "successfully return to continuing their academic education in their mainstream school or in a new school".
During their visit, inspectors identified a lack of organisation in some areas of teaching, including where gaps in pupils' knowledge are not checked and identified in some subjects.
They reported that the school needs to improve this by making sure curriculum subjects specifies what students need to be taught, know, and be able to achieve to continue to support their growth.
Kirsten Macleod, headteacher at Newham PRUs, said: "I am so proud of our staff who work tirelessly supporting our wonderful students develop the confidence, resilience and kindness that will set them up for the next steps in their education."
