A 16-year-old boy was stabbed to death in a park by a knife fanatic who bought weapons online.
Rahaan Ahmed Amin was attacked in West Ham Park on July 9 last year when a 17-year-old cycled up to him and immediately stabbed him.
The attacker, who cannot be named due to his age, was found guilty of murder and on Wednesday (October 9) was jailed for life with a minimum of 15 years.
Detective Chief Inspector Kelly Allen said: "The defendant's claim that he acted in self-defence was completely rejected by the jury.
“Rahaan was murdered in cold blood after the 17-year-old cycled up to him and stabbed him within seconds of arriving, giving him no opportunity to react.”
Detectives found the murder weapon, a long red knife, in a tree in the park covered in the attacker’s fingerprints and the victim’s blood.
Officers later found the 17-year-old's Snapchat account, which showed a collection of nine knives lined up on a bed, including a knife identical to the murder weapon.
It was revealed that the attacker had purchased the knives using the name of one of his father’s friends.
When the police told the man about these transactions, he had no knowledge of them at all.
DCI Allen said: "This case demonstrates how easy it is for young people to purchase deadly knives online.
“I would urge all parents to be aware of their child's online activity and what purchases they are making. It is also important for parents to keep their ID documents secure to ensure they are not misused by their children."
