Pictures from the scene show huge flames coming from the 10th floor of a block of flats in Plaistow this morning (October 21).
Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters were dispatched to tackle the blaze, which had engulfed both the balcony and the interior of the flat on Queens Road West.
The fire was first reported at 8.02am, with over 30 emergency calls made by concerned residents.
Three men managed to leave the flat before the London Fire Brigade arrived.
They received treatment at the scene from the London Ambulance Service.
As a precaution, around 30 people were evacuated from the building.
Thick black smoke could be seen billowing out of the windows of the flat.
The rising smoke appeared to be affecting the flats above.
Firefighters, with crews from East Ham, Plaistow, Stratford, and nearby stations, brought the fire under control by 9.03am.
The fire brigade has advised the public to avoid the area, as fire crews continue to work at the site.
The incident is also still affecting traffic in the surrounding area.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Brigade.
