Newham residents have a unique chance to find out how they can help save lives with clinical trials at Newham University Hospital
They are invited to their local hospital on Monday to discover how medical research can transform lives.
They can attend a discussion and design a trial workshop. They will also have an opportunity to hear first-hand from a patient about their experience of participating in trials.
Following the discussion, they will be given the opportunity to design their own trial with patients who have helped in previous trials. Dr David Collier, Research Fellow at the William Harvey Research Institute, will explain the steps of designing and conducting your own clinical trial.
This event will be held at 10am at the Common Room, Education Centre (Zone 2) at Newham University Hospital.
Attendance for this session must be pre-booked. To reserve your place, email communications@bartshealth.nhs.uk or call Mike Taylor on 020 7882 5662.
Neeta Patel, Barts Health Associate Director for Engagement and Diffusion, said: “Patient and public participation is vital to help us improve future treatments and our services .The aim of our research is to find better ways of looking after our patients and keeping people healthy.
“We are hosting these events so that members of the public can come and discover the different ways in how they can get involved. Patients are not the only people who can input into trials. We don’t just want to recruit patients – healthy people can also get involved.”
