Austrian international joins Copper Box ranks

London Lions have added Austrian international Moritz Lanegger to their new-look roster.

The six foot three inch guard played six times for Manchester last season, averaginng 11 points, five rebounds and 4.5 assists, before joining Denmark’s Naestved, where he scored nine points in two minutes to help clinch the Danish Cup.

The 27-year-old spent four seasons with Klosterneuburg in Austria’s A Bundesliga and was league MVP in 2013 and defensive player of the year in 2015.

Lanegger also played for Gussinger Knights and has just finished National team duty with Austria this summer.

Lions head coach Mariusz Karol was delighted to secure his services and said: “Moritz is a very good guard at both positions, he plays pick and roll very well and defensively, he has a fearless attitude and approach, he will be well liked by our fans.”

Lanegger is looking forward to calling the Copper Box home, addinng: “I am looking forward to playing for the Lions! I think it is going to be a very interesting year.

“I am very excited to meet the new coach, team, staff, fans and the city!”

Lions chief executive Vince Macaulay said: “We saw in six games last season what this lad can do. He’s strong, athletic and smart.

“I like his desire and it’s what we need here at the Lions. I’m pleased to be able to get him to London.”

Lions begin their pre-season on September 5, when they fly to Poland for tournament games before returning for the British Basketball All Stars event at the O2 Arena on September 24.
