Newham-based club have achieved a lot of success in recent months and are battling to win two different competitions
Genesis Futsal Club secretary Trevor Tamatave has praised the spirit of the young Newham-based team.
Tomorrow (Sunday) they make the trip to Loughborough for a quarter-final clash in the FA Futsal Cup. Carlos Felipe Codinha coaches the team and has overseen some fine results in recent weeks.
They defeated Birmingham, champions of the Super League North Division, 4-0 on May 8 to book a sport in the Grand Finals of the FA National Super League.
After losing the first leg 8-4, Genesis produced a stunning display to beat their midland rivals. Tamatave said: “At the beginning of the campaign we had high hopes because we had a young squad and they did very well last season.
“We hoped they could build on that and although we had the youngster team in the league, we brought a few players in.
“Unfortunately they left after Christmas, but we got together and the spirit improved and we qualified for the Super League play-offs in the final match of the season.”
It has been a incredible couple of months for Genesis with their momentum and confidence extremely high.
Prior to progressing past Birmingham recently on the away goal rule, they achieved impressive wins over the likes of Fourstar, Reading and West London Futsal teams.
They also managed to come from four goals down with just three minutes of normal time remaining to get past London Helvecia 8-7 following extra time in the last 16 of the FA Futsal Cup.
And their success against Birmingham on May 8 means it has been a great time for the Newham-based club of late.
“Birmingham were the North Champions and hadn’t lost a game all season, they were favourites to qualify so it is a big achievement by us,” said Tamatave.
“At the beginning I think in the back of our minds we thought we could win it, but we got together after the 8-4 defeat and began to believe again and the players responded.”
Genesis will now hope to qualify for the semi-finals of the FA Futsal Cup when they face Loughborough tomorrow.
The clash will take place at the Sir David Wallace Sports Hall and entry is free with free food also expected to be provided.
“It will be a tough match as Loughborough have several England internationals and are also coached by the England manager,” said Tamatave.
But after Genesis’ recent achievement, you wouldn’t bet against them in this last eight Futsal tie.
