Taekwondo club bring back eight medals after two-day event

Gurumu Taekwondo club attended their first domestic tournament of the year at the weekend and brought eight medals back with them from Nottingham.

Head coach Mr Sivakumar Ramasamy took a small team of 10 players to the Nottingham Taekwondo Open and it proved to be a successful couple of days.

Top athletes from around the country had gathered at the event, as well as some international players, to battle it out at the two day competition at the Wildcats Arena.

The club, who are based in Manor Park, saw many of their players get off to a positive start and it resulted in four of them winning gold.

Nithin Francis, Will Tumber and Ismail Hussain quickly saw off their opponents with technical knockouts.

In the end, Gurumu would finish with 8 medals from 10 players with gold’s going to Gurpreet Singh, Ismail Hussain, Tumber and Ibrahim Hussain.

Francis and Mohummad Nour picked up silver medals each for their efforts, whilst Arun Roy and Sandhya Balakrishnan came home with bronze medals.

The club are now preparing for the Austrian Open, at Innsbruck, where many of the athletes will be looking to earn World Championship positions for the Great Britain Team.
