Stand-up comedian Quincy, aka the Cockney Prince, is the driving force behind an evening of music and comedy that celebrates some of the biggest black legends in showbiz.

Billed as Comedy Got Soul the comic will be hosting an evening of family entertainment that will include music and fashion to celebrate Black History Month at Stratford Circus on October 26.

Singing sensations Charlene and Mulrain will cover the classics with songs that pay homage to the stars of yesteryear including Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye and Billie Holliday. The evening will also feature some of London’s hottest comedians, Babatunde and Aurie Styla and fashion by ....

Quincy, who grew up in Canning Town, believes it is vital to recognise how much such stars have done in paving the way for the current generation of performers.

He said: “I think for me Black History Month is a time which allows us to focus on where we have come from, what we have achieved, coming from Africa, the Carribbean and other parts of the world.

“A lot of youngsters in fashion and music today are in the same cultural pool but their sense of individual history is being lost, it is not being spoken about. Black people are not wearing traditional clothes, the men don’t have the Afro hair, its all short back and sides these days.

“When I’m on stage, I speak about black households, about house clothes so that when you got home from school you got changed out of your uniform and remind them that in them days your parents bought you clothes that were too big for you and you grew into them. It was a way of saving money, so each year instead of buying new trousers for you they would let down the hem. By the time you left school your trousers looked like curtains because they had been let down so many times.

“So you can expect lots of laughter and family entertainment at the show where I will be showing the younger generation what their parents did in their day.”

Comedy Got Soul starts at 8pm at Stratford Circus. Tickets, which start at £10, are available from the box office on 0844 357 2625
